An eclipse phase full of twists and turns: Lunar eclipse in Pisces
The most intense phase of an extraordinary eclipse is drawing to a close. Eclipses can act as a kind of initiation period for inner or outer shifts . Something shifts, an insight emerges, an encounter sets something in motion, or a situation suddenly develops a completely different dynamic.
And sometimes we only understand months later: Ah, that's where it all started.
The solar eclipse of August 12th took place in fiery Leo. It was about visibility, vitality, expression, and self-realization – and about what might need to be let go so that more of our own creative power can come through again.
The lunar eclipse in Pisces on August 28th was the second and final eclipse of this eclipse season. And its quality could hardly be more different.
From fire we go into water. From the stage into the depths and from expression to processing.

This eclipse phase was quite something.
Eclipses have long been considered special turning points in astrology.
They can intensify or accelerate developments and bring to the surface something that has been in preparation for some time. Sometimes the existing stage set changes quite abruptly in the process.
This August eclipse phase was remarkably agitating, even shocking. In mundane astrology (the astrology of world events), eclipses are often linked to natural disasters, especially during a period of heightened astrological tension. There are mundane astrologers, such as Claude Weiss, who specialize in researching such connections.
On August 10 , two days before the solar eclipse, a severe earthquake of magnitude 7.4 shook Colombia.
On the night of August 14th to 15th, an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck near the Indonesian island of Flores.
On August 26 , just two days before the lunar eclipse, a massive collapse of rock and glacier masses in the border region of Nepal and Tibet triggered a devastating flood.
The eclipse phase was also marked by notable farewells, such as the deaths of actress Hayden Panettiere and country music icon Dolly Parton.
Yet eclipses are not only associated with crisis and farewell. Sometimes, they also mark a breakthrough.
Just a few hours before the lunar eclipse , two world records were set at the world-class meeting in Zurich : Alison dos Santos ran 45.80 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles, and Masai Russell ran an incredible 12.09 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles.
I watched the broadcast on SRF. The large reddish moon was shown repeatedly.
And after her world record, Masai Russell said several times in the interview:
"I am over the moon!"
These completely different examples, viewed from an astrological perspective, illustrate something important:
An eclipse can signify upheaval and farewell, but also breakthrough. End and beginning.
The common denominator for me is the shift .
Something is no longer the same as before – either externally or within ourselves.
Sometimes, it's "only" our perspective on a situation that changes.

What happens during a lunar eclipse?
A lunar eclipse is essentially a full moon when the sun, Earth, and moon are perfectly aligned. The Earth is positioned between the sun and the moon, and its shadow falls on the moon.
Astrologically, a lunar eclipse is considered a supercharged full moon.
And because eclipses always occur near the lunar node axis, they add that special fateful or karmic quality that we astrologically associate with turning points, development, and with things that are beyond our control.
Pisces meets Virgo: feel, clarify, integrate
During this lunar eclipse, the moon is in the sensitive water sign Pisces , while the sun is opposite it in the precise earth sign Virgo . Pisces is traditionally associated with Jupiter and, in modern astrology, also with Neptune. Here we enter a completely different landscape than during the Leo solar eclipse.
Pisces represents, among other things:
Dreams and the unconscious
Intuition and sensitivity
Compassion and solidarity
Spirituality and devotion
but also illusion, boundlessness and confusion
Loss, grief, or the feeling of no longer having solid ground beneath one's feet.
On the opposite side stands Virgo:
Analysis and discriminatory power
Daily life and routines
Body and practical self-care
Order, clarification and improvement
Precision and the ability to look closely
to distinguish between what is essential and what is not essential
The Pisces-Virgo axis has been with us for some time: This lunar eclipse is part of a series of eclipses that runs from September 2024 to February 2027.
One central theme is:
What do we feel or sense – and what stands up to closer scrutiny?
The Virgo sun brings clarity to the Pisces world. Illusions can dissolve, and desires or ideals can be re-evaluated. At the same time, something that happened in recent weeks may only now truly sink in emotionally.
This lunar eclipse is therefore also a reality check – and a phase of integration.
Intense dreams, stronger emotions, or a greater need for rest are all common occurrences these days. I'm also experiencing crazy vivid dreams myself lately, and it seems my subconscious is currently engaged in a major clearing-out process. Sufficient sleep, rest, and a little more space between things can be particularly beneficial.
Uranus: The great troublemaker of this lunar eclipse
And now we come to one of the most important signatures of this eclipse.
The sun and moon were in an extremely close square to Uranus in Gemini.
This creates a very tight mutable T-square between Pisces, Virgo, and Gemini.
This is a highly tense situation.
In astrological terms, Uranus represents, among other things:
sudden changes and surprises
Breaks with the past
Breaking free from deadlocked situations
unexpected information and insights
Restlessness and electrical tension
acceleration
the moment when something is suddenly seen differently
Uranus brought an extra dose of disruption to this lunar eclipse.
Mercury is also close to the Sun and square to Uranus – insights, news or conversations can therefore trigger a surprising turn of events.
The eclipse phase subsides – its effects not necessarily.
With this lunar eclipse, the second exact eclipse of this August eclipse season is now behind us. The most intense phase is thus slowly coming to an end.
But that doesn't mean everything will suddenly be over on August 29th.
The effects of eclipses can continue to unfold over weeks and months.
At the same time, Jupiter is approaching a harmonious trine with Saturn , which will become exact on August 31st. This will allow growth and structure, vision and reality to be better integrated.
Simultaneously, a square is forming between Mars and Saturn , which will become exact on September 1st. Here, yet another tension becomes apparent: Where does our will reach its limits? Where does something require perseverance or patience? And where is a course correction, rather than more pressure, needed?
A welcome turning point
For me personally, this eclipse period manifested itself concretely – and in this case with a welcome turning point: One day before the solar eclipse, I had the opportunity to make my first public appearance as an astrologer : on a panel with self-employed people in front of approximately 170 people! And that after almost five years of being a good part of my time a professional desk dweller for the magazine Astrologie Heute.
The Leo solar eclipse took place in my 5th house – the house of creativity, self-realization or independence (self-employment), and the stage. That was quite fitting.

The lunar eclipse at 4°54' Pisces brought the Pisces-Virgo axis into focus: feeling and reality, devotion and discernment, intuition and rationality.
The extremely close square to Uranus was one of the most important signatures of this eclipse. Developments may accelerate, something may unexpectedly change – or we may suddenly see a situation differently.
The lunar node axis brings the theme of development and letting go into play: acknowledging the past and letting go where something truly comes to an end.
At the same time, this lunar eclipse represents an opening towards the future . An insight, an encounter, or an unexpected development could open a new door.
Time can feel emotionally charged, electric, and intensely stimulating. Sufficient rest, sleep, relaxation, and space between things can therefore be particularly beneficial.
