Once in a Blue Moon
The second full moon of May occurs on May 31st – two full moons in one calendar month are a rarity, which is why this phenomenon has been given a name: Blue Moon. This is also the origin of the English idiom "Once in a Blue Moon," used to emphasize the rarity and special nature of an event.
From a purely astrological perspective, I cannot assign any particular constellation to this term; it is more likely that the Blue Moon has a symbolic value: a kind of second chance in a month to take another look and to be made aware of something again.
A Full Moon with strong Jupiter-influence
When I considered the constellations of this full moon, I was somewhat reassured—after the intense, stirring constellations of the last few months: While it is and remains a full moon that reminds us of our emotional to-dos, it occurs in the optimistic sign of Sagittarius, which is ruled by an exalted Jupiter in Cancer (exalted here means: very well and positively positioned). For astro-nerds: Currently, Jupiter and the Moon can swap places and can be interpreted similarly to a conjunction.
Thus, the radiance and effect of this fully illuminated Moon is twice as strong .
This can be helpful for becoming aware of and processing outdated truths, stored emotions, and no longer beneficial habits, ideas, and beliefs.

The tension axis: Gemini - Sagittarius
During a full moon, the Sun and Moon are opposite each other, creating maximum tension (opposition aspect): The Gemini-Sun is opposite the Sagittarius-Moon and fully illuminates the Moon with its to-dos.
For me, the Moon does not symbolize or exude romance, but rather serves as a reminder of a dense package of outdated truths and habits, and of outsourced, unprocessed emotions and burdens.
Its bright flash is like a jarring reminder that the basement probably isn't completely cleaned out yet. As always, it depends on how a full moon falls in our birth chart which area of life it activates and what it triggers.
On this topic, I offer a comprehensive support package: Over three sessions, we will explore in depth the areas and themes triggered by the current Moon phase, as well as the lunar aspects within the birth chart . For several years, I have observed and documented the connection between lunar activity and events in my own life. With a strongly aspected Moon in the first house of personality, the ego, I am deeply connected to the complex themes of the Moon.
The moonlight in Sagittarius
Sagittarius is the sign of philosophy, the search for meaning and truth, the broadening of horizons, adventure, religions, and bringers of light who wish to share their truths. Sagittarius energy also represents optimism, generosity, and tolerance in a liberated sense, but when inhibited, it can quickly lead to judgment, frustration, and self-righteousness.
A few reflection questions about this full moon:
Where do I cling to my (old, outdated) truth or view of life, even if it no longer fits my current situation or my vision for the future?
Are we being too generous in overlooking details, or are we getting lost in visions and dreams instead of taking concrete steps? Are we discussing our visions and how they could be realized?
Where am I overdoing it, relentlessly pushing on even though pausing would be more sensible? Where am I continuing to search "in the distance" even though the "solution" is right in front of me?
Do we allow ourselves to shape our everyday lives according to our own visions and worldviews, or do we submit to externally imposed views and philosophies of life?
Are we seeing things too much through a personal lens (Sagittarius), instead of looking at them more distantly, objectively, and neutrally (Gemini)? And if so, in which areas, topics, or situations?
Am I perhaps underestimating the importance of the "little things", the daily routines, rituals, actions, habits and contacts (Gemini) and overlooking the fact that it is precisely these that lead me to my greater vision (Sagittarius)?
I hope the questions presented and the position of the Moon in the birth chart will help to further explore the distorted Sagittarius themes. Often, (small and sometimes larger) situations arise in everyday life in the days surrounding the Full Moon, providing clues as to where the (shadow) themes lie.
How are you progressing with your self-discovery? Are these questions helping you move forward? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments :)
An integrated healing factor
Mercury, currently ruling the Gemini Sun, is just in its own home of Gemini during the full moon. This is another factor contributing to the supportive energies during the full moon's process of letting go.
Furthermore, Mercury is in a harmonious aspect with Chiron . Through conversation (including with oneself :-), healing can now occur and profound insights can be gained.
For astro-nerds: Chiron is in Aries until June 19th, meaning it's at its most concentrated final degree and wants to impart some final Chiron-in-Aries wisdom. The final degree of each sign is among the most intense and concentrated, as it serves as a final test to ensure the transit's mission has been fulfilled and everything understood. Therefore, the intensity of celestial bodies at these final degrees can be challenging, as the energy of the entire sign flows in through the planet (or, in this case, the asteroid Chiron). However, this also presents significant learning opportunities and chances for progress.
last but not least
Interestingly, the Moon, and also Mercury, are particularly "out of bounds" during this full moon period. This means they don't follow their usual, predetermined paths, but rather deviate from them. They don't conform to the established order.
Thus, the entire Gemini-Sagittarius axis is out of the ordinary. This brings with it a factor of unpredictability and unplannability during these days; more so than at other full moons, events can change more quickly and unexpectedly, and emotions can erupt suddenly and more intensely than usual during full moon periods.
Full moons are times of integration, processing, and letting go. We can consciously channel this energy with a simple ritual:
A simple ritual
Light a candle and create a space of silence.
Experience gratitude for at least 3 things, people, or situations in your life.
Write down everything you want to let go of and release. Also, what and with whom you want to reconcile. The key word here is forgiveness, including forgiveness towards yourself. This could include habits, beliefs, or even relationships that no longer give you meaning. The questions and topics related to distorted Sagittarius energy (see above) can serve as inspiration. Your intuition will guide you.
Then you can burn the piece of paper, pour water over it, and return it to the earth.
Timing : Ideally, you should perform the ritual for its greatest energetic effect on the evening before the full moon, or otherwise on the day itself before the full moon, which is exactly at 10:45 CEST on May 31st. However, there is no wrong time for your ritual; it can also be performed later.
Which question about this full moon resonates with you most right now? Feel free to share it in the comments. And if you'd like to gain a deeper understanding of which themes the moon is activating in your own horoscope, I'd be happy to guide you through a personal astrological consultation.
